We kicked off the project (literally) with a Dabke lesson in Dance class today!
After that, the kids watched three short videos and took notes. The first video was an all-male group, the second was all-female. After the children compared and contrasted the two videos, they viewed the third video: an instruction on the basic Dabke step. Then it was time to dance! | Ms. Terah began by having the kids recall a few things about folk dances and line dances they have covered in classes over the past couple of weeks. Then she gave them a brief history of the Dabke and the meaning of the word ("stomping the ground"). |
The students really seemed to enjoy the lesson, based on their participation, and the feedback forms I have received so far! If you don't see your child in this post, it may be because I have not yet received your permission notification from the Parent Portal page; please complete the form so that I can post more pics and videos!
