2) Defining "Forward-Thinking;"
3) making sure all Pioneers were aware of our ultimate Project Goal.
It was interesting to see how many students initially struggled with the concept of "forward-thinking." It's a very abstract concept, so I had to prompt them and give them several examples. But eventually, the kids grasped the concept and came up with the following:
"Forward thinking...
Is Futuristic: Thinks of, imagines, or looks into the future
Blends past & present
Blends artistic styles
Modernizes: Adds something modern to something old
Sends a message
Improves on something
Repurposes or recycles"
Later, we went to dance class. Ms. Terah asked the students to recall details about the Dabke dance they did last week. Then she asked some driving questions to help get the juices flowing about their upcoming forward-thinking project. The Pioneers split into small groups to discuss and had some interesting ideas...
